A board game by Julian & Landon Mohabir · Guyana
Our story
We’re Julian and Landon Mohabir from Guyana. We made Ready Fi Di Road to help kids learn how to stay safe on the roads they use every day.
1 · The problem
Guyana has one of the highest road death rates in the world. When we researched it, we found that road crashes are also a leading cause of death for children aged 5 to 14. Almost every week there was another crash on the front page of the newspaper.
Many of these accidents can be prevented if people know what to do. But there weren’t any fun ways for kids to learn about road safety, and most families don’t talk about it at home.
2 · The idea
We looked at other road safety games first. In Let’s Drive, luck decides most of the game and it only teaches about driving. In Take the Lead, you make the same decisions every time you play.
We wanted a game where knowledge matters more than luck, and where the questions are about the real situations kids face in countries like ours. There are more than 60 scenario cards across six topics. Safe choices move you forward, and risky ones send you back.
3 · The prototype
The first version was drawn by hand on a sheet of paper, with a path from Home to School and a letter on each square for its topic. Then we turned it into a full-colour board with Guyanese houses, minibuses, puddles, fallen power lines and thunderstorms, plus a deck of cards for every topic.

4 · Sharing it
In 2024 we presented Ready Fi Di Road at the Chicago Toy Fair Young Inventor Challenge. Since then we’ve brought the board to students, who crowd around the table to take a turn, and to the “Do the Right Thing” road safety event.
